Obesity timebomb 'could destroy the NHS’

Dr Brian Newman has warned of an 'obesity timebomb'.

Speaking in the Manchester Evening News, Dr Newman warned that with rising obesity levels, the misguided direction that the government and NICE are taking on treatment is simply papering over the cracks and putting an even greater strain on the already struggling NHS.

With new figures revealing that almost 16,000 people in the North West Region required hospital treatment for obesity in 2013/14, Dr Newman says obesity could ‘destroy the NHS’ if the government and food industry fail to adopt a new approach.

Gastric surgery is failing patients and Diet UK are experiencing a surge in patients who have previously undergone surgery and are seeking an alternative treatment.
